On Wednesday, December 5, 2007, more than 100 young people in foster care filled the auditorium at the New School for a Network to Success event featuring a panel of foster care alumni. Reverend Alfonso Wyatt, the 2006 recipient of the NYFC Nicholas Scoppetta Child Welfare Award, served as the moderator for the evening, and was joined by successful panelists from all walks of life. 2005 NYFC Spirit Award winner Glenn Coleman, who received his degree from Howard University, spoke about the challenges he faced on his path to success and how he was able to overcome them. Glenn now works in technology sales in New York. Giselle John, Executive Director of Voices of Youth, spoke about how growing up in foster care motivated her to give back to her community. Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, having spent several years of his childhood in foster care, urged young people to persevere in the face of adversity. We are so grateful to all of our panelists, whose experiences inspired the next generation of New York City’s youth in foster care.
