Scholarships For Youth In Care

Guardian Scholars Program:

A comprehensive college scholarship program for New York City youth in foster care.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a highly motivated student currently or formerly in foster care in New York City and attending Hunter, John Jay or Kingsborough as a Freshman or Sophomore in the 2014-2015 school year. If formerly in foster care, applicant must have been in care on or after his or her 16th birthday.

Students participating in the program will receive:

Personalized wrap around services in the form of financial, academic and emotional support
Monthly stipend to help cover educational and living expenses
Connection to academic and personal resources

Guardian Scholars Application

NYFC Spirit Award:

A $10,000 scholarship for one young person in foster care in New York City who is succeeding at any 2-or 4-year college.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be a highly motivated student currently or formerly in foster care in New York City who has completed at least one year of studies at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university. If formerly in foster care, applicant must have been in care on or after his or her 16th birthday.

The recipient will be a young person who has demonstrated:

Outstanding leadership skills
A commitment to their community
Determination and ability to overcome the barriers to academic success
