NYFC EMERGENCY FUNDS

COVID-19 Emergency Grants

We have five available COVID-related emergency grants available for youth in and aged out of NYC foster care, as well as foster parents and caregivers. Our emergency grants were established to provide support for individuals who fall under the following categories:

  1. Youth aged out of NYC foster care, ages 18-26, who are not enrolled in college or an accredited vocational program
  2. Youth who are currently in foster care in NYC and are currently enrolled in college or an accredited vocational program
  3. Youth who are aged out of NYC foster care, ages 18-26, and are currently enrolled in college or an accredited vocational program
  4. Youth in Foster Care Who Are Not Enrolled College or an Accredited Vocational Program
  5. Grants for Foster Caregivers and Parents with Children in New York City Foster Care
 
 
 

New Yorkers For Children will generally fulfill requests to cover emergencies associated with the COVID-19 crisis, such as:

  • overdue rent or emergency housing assistance
  • overdue utility bills
  • medical and dental bills for uninsured necessary procedures
  • transportation
  • books and school supplies
  • support for groceries and food
  • cleaning supplies
  • technology support for remote work and learning
  • baby food, formula, and diapers
  • Other items at the discretion of the committee

New Yorkers For Children will generally not fund requests for:

  • legal representation in criminal or civil proceeding
  • youth who have been compensated through another NYFC Fund (for COVID related emergencies)

 

 

1. Grants for Aged Out Youth Who Are Not Enrolled in College or  Accredited Vocational Program

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  •   Be Aged-out of New York City foster care, ages 18-26 years old
  • Provide brief description of what funds will cover.

2. Grants for Youth Who Are Currently in Foster Care & Are Enrolled in College or Accredited Vocational Program

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must currently be in NYC foster care
  • Must be currently enrolled in college or an accredited vocational program
  • Not be older than 27 years of age
  • Provide documentation of the reason funds are needed

TO APPLY:
Your Agency staff member must submit the application on behalf of the student applying so that NYFC verify the student’s foster care status.

3. Grants for Youth Who Are Aged Out of NYC Foster Care & Are Enrolled in College or Accredited Vocational Program

  • Must be currently enrolled in college or an accredited vocational program
  • Not be older than 27 years of age
  • Provide documentation of the reason funds are needed

4. Grants for Youth Currently In-Care Who Are Not Enrolled College or an Accredited Vocational Program

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be Currently In Care in New York City foster care, ages 18-21 years old.
  • Not be currently enrolled in College or an accredited Vocational Program.

5. Grants for Foster Caregivers and Parents with Children in New York City Foster Care

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Foster Caregivers:

Be a foster caregiver in care New York City with children between 0-17 years old and has:

  • lost job or income (must provide evidence with application; Agency must also note parent has lost job in Connections), and
  • has applied for unemployment but not yet received / not eligible, or
  • had recent loss of spouse/household member (Agency must note in Connections)

Parents with children/youth in foster care:

Be a parent with a child or children in New York City Foster Care between the ages of 0-17 years old and has:

  • lost job or income (must provide evidence with application; Agency must also note parent has lost job/income in Connections), and
  • has applied for unemployment but not yet received / not eligible,
  • Or has no permanent residence
