New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) is a unique player in the field of New York City child welfare. We operate our own direct service programs for youth aging out of foster care, and we also serve as a backbone organization overseeing grants delivered through community partners or expert consultants. NYFC works alongside child welfare agencies and community partners to fulfill our mission to improve the well-being of youth and families in the child welfare system with an emphasis on older youth aging out of the system.
NYFC’s unique hybrid role as both intermediary and direct service provider gives us the infrastructure, field knowledge, and flexibility to meet the pressing needs of NYC youth both currently in foster care and those who have aged-out. NYFC serves about 1,000 youth annually - ages 18 to 26 - aiming to enroll them in college, support them through graduation, and help them gain the skills needed to enter the workforce. Since its inception in 1996, NYFC has distributed nearly $70 million in funds to support youth and families involved in the child welfare system, including over $8 million in direct scholarships to foster youth to promote post-secondary education.
