Safety Net

Financial lifelines and counseling are critical in helping youth weather economic ’shocks’ that can quickly spiral, derailing dreams of graduation and a stable, well-paying job. As such, NYFC provides one-time safety net support to young adults who have aged out of foster care including young parents and those not necessarily in school to help get them back on a stable track. We are also integrating financial literacy and budgeting planning as a requirement to receive an Emergency Grant. Coupling one-time financial support with budgeting and financial literacy, NYFC helps keep youth on track towards stable, independent adulthood.

Receiving the Charles Evans Emergency Educational Fund was such a great help to me because it helped me pay off my housing balance so that I could just focus on school and not have to be stressed about my school finances I'm so grateful thank you so much.

I'm so overwhelmed with Joy. I don't even know where to begin but let me try and sum it all up. Before receiving The Charles Evans Emergency Fund, I had already made my mind up that going back to school wasn't going to be an option for me. I was extremely depressed and disappointed at so many things that was going wrong in my life. The Charles Evans Emergency Fund was a beacon of hope. I was granted the opportunity to continue my education and that truly means the world to me. Now I'm back in school and more determined, driven, and focused than ever! Thanks to everyone that made my educational success a possibility! I am really grateful!

After a 15-year struggle living in foster care, I finally had my own apartment. I had gotten most of the basic necessities and all I needed was a bed. I asked my foster care agency for help but I was denied. With prices rising its harder to pay for basic necessities let alone a bed. If it weren't for NYFC helping me purchase a bed I probably would've continued to sleep on the floor until I could scrounge up the money. Although it doesn't seem like much I am extremely grateful for the help I received from NYFC.
