NYFC Celebrates Pride!
2020 marks the 50th annual Pride month and celebration in New York City. As our city and the LGBTQIA+ community reach this incredible milestone, we at NYFC are taking a moment to reflect on the immeasurable contributions this community continues to make every day, all in the face of historic and continued prejudice, violence, and discrimination.
We are strengthened by the young people who identify as LGBTQIA+ who have taken on leadership roles within our organization – whether it be through the Youth Advisory Board, Peer Mentoring, or being an active scholarship participant – and use their voices to help shape, inform, and educate their peers, NYFC staff, and our programming. We are truly privileged that the youth we serve bring so many diverse and unique perspectives and experiences to the table; especially at a time when civil rights and healthcare protections for transgender/non-conforming people are being erased, and queer people of color are particularly targeted for hate crimes and violence. NYFC as an organization strives to amplify and uphold members of the LGBTQIA+ community – now more than ever – as they are an integral and critical part of our NYFC family, the city we all call home, our country, and our global society.
While Pride month may look different this year as we celebrate virtually – we assure you, it is not canceled. Pride, inclusivity, equality, love, unity, and advocacy are never canceled. The future is Pride!
